COLD FUSION - Clean Nuclear Energy. "The neglect of Cold Fusion is one
of the biggest scandals in the history of science." ~~ Arthur C. Clark
Steven Krivit author of "The Rebirth of Cold Fusion" ...speaking on Cold Fusion and the revolution in New Energy Technologies, and the person to speak on the subject. An authority on this research, because he's done coverage on all of the prominent scientists in the field. Steven has the ability to translate this so that it makes sense to us, the mainstream audience. This area of research greatly needs help, Cold Fusion labs are grossly neglected and inadequately equipped.
What is it and how does it work? Cold Fusion is a scientific discovery that may be the answer to the world's energy problems. It occurs in a room temperature experiment and produces nuclear energy, but it doesn't produce harmful radiation, nuclear waste, or greenhouse gasses. Cold fusion uses a form of hydrogen, called deuterium, for its fuel. Deuterium comes from ocean water, about one in every 6,000 water molecules contains deuterium. When the center parts of two deuterium atoms come close enough, they fuse, when this happens, they combine to make helium and a large amount of heat. Theoretically, fusion of hydrogen can generate 8 million times more energy than hydrogen burned in a chemical reaction.
Will it suck our oceans dry over time? No, because the immense output of nuclear energy, as compared with the chemical reactions from fossil fuels we use today, will only require a tiny amount of fuel. The impact of deuterium extraction from ocean water, for the purpose of generating fusion energy for the entire world's energy consumption, would lower the ocean surface only by one millimeter after several thousand years.
Is it dangerous? When we hear "nuclear" we think of mushroom clouds, Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, etc. which all come from a completely different process: nuclear fission, the splitting of atoms. Nations struggle to find safe methods to dispose of the radioactive waste from nuclear fission. Cold fusion, however, is the process of joining atomic nuclei, performed at room temperature and is clean. & Tiny amounts of radiation are seen, about a fraction of a dental x-ray. There are no radioactive waste products. There are no gamma rays or neutron streams, which are deadly to humans, as is found in hot fusion. No greenhouse gases are created, as with the burning of fossil fuels. The dominant by-product is helium, a safe element.
Are there also side benefits? Several technical "miracles" could come from it:
* it may be able to take radioactive waste stored underground and remediate it into non-radioactive substances.
* transport water great distances to irrigate barren lands to support agriculture for starving nations
* provide unlimited quantities of drinking water that in some countries is more precious than oil
* new modes of transportation using magnetic levitation technology
* and others beyond imagination.
Seems that using fossil fuels is like slamming our energy needs with a mass-to-mass sledge hammer approach whereas creating (safe) energy from the nucleus of the atom is more directly and eloquently manipulating the quantum field.
