~~~ Paul E. Nelson ~~~
Paul E. Nelson is the Founder/Director of Global Voices Radio in Auburn, WA "to support more just and democratic approaches to the issues that transcend borders and to the ways communities may respond to these challenges". In September 2004, they decided to suspend GVR seeking instead to concentrate on their local, low-power radio service in the community, AuburnCommunityRadio.com
Paul is also a gifted poet and Co-Founder of the local poetry series SPLAB!, or The Northwest SPokenword LAB. SPLAB! "assists in the creation and/or healthy expression of identity, blurring the distinction between social services and the arts", Paul sees poetry as a tool, a path, to creating a different attitude, state, and creating new neural connections. He says that a free-associative (spontaneous) writing discipline over years leads one to a deeper state of consciousness.
We learned much about open form vs structured poetry and enjoyed Paul's thinking, approach to art and life, and poetry reading.   Our local listeners are invited to join SPLAB!'s frequent intimate gatherings and let their creative mind soar!
All about SPLAB!   Know thyself through writing.   Paul explains structured vs. open forms... track and hunt for the poem... to ultimately find the original spontaneous mind.   A daily writing discipline in open form can change ones level of consciousness.  And a special treat for listeners as Paul reads to us some of his work.
