Laurie Pyne - Beyond the Ordinary Dot Net

Laurie Pyne, with a degree in optometry and internship in a VA hospital where her observations of physical problems and attitude, expectations, and the influence of others' beliefs, led her deeper into studies of mind and biology. Along the way, opportunities appeared that allowed her to experience other passions, i.e. she is now working with the International Bird Rescue Research Center, (explained on her program with Jay Holcomb.

That is not all, having had the opportunity to speak on multiple occasions to high school students (and younger kids) about who they really are and why attitude is everything, she has expanded on what, at the moment, she calls 'the youth imagination and empowerment project'. Why she wants to do this and is so passionate about it ... in her words:

"So many of them are caught in the trap of "making the grades", getting into a "good" school and fitting into a mold that is dictated more by society than their hearts. Nowhere in the curriculum is imagination and creativity nurtured or even encouraged or, more importantly, are they told how powerful they are and that they can do anything. I speak to them about how their thoughts create their reality, how changing their minds can change their world and I gave them examples from my own experience, noting that all I spoke of has hard scientific support now and there is a copious amount of research being done on topics that had previously been thought too "out there" to merit study.

I figured if one kid got it I would be happy. I was happily surprised with the amount of wonderful feedback I get from them which has ranged from those that stuck a toe in the water to those that took a bigger step in my "don't take my word for it" challenge and did incredible things within 24 hours of the talk. I've also had the opportunity to work with young competitive figure skaters along the same lines. The kids get it but who tells them or teaches them this? I want them to know they have incredible imaginations and that they create their reality. I want them to know that genius is not only a letter grade, that they have real power and that the problems of the world are only going to be solved with creative vision. I feel an urgent need to bring this message to the youth of today and to provide them with the information to change their lives and allow their creative, imaginative mind to flourish in a world where social codes dominate. This is about a new vision for our youth, our future.
