"The Big Six" A very interesting hour about mainstream media and how important media is. From her years of experience, (after all a 'Designer in the Light' means knowing what's going on!) Clare gives a little history. In 1983 there were 50 media companies, now there are only 6, and guess who is the biggest? Clue, they manufacture war equipment for the government. The list of what these 6 owns is stunning. So what's the big deal? Clare explains beautifully what has become of the "news" reporting business; local reporters don't go out and get the news, it gets piped in... information is all cookie cut by the Big 6, the FCC and what it was supposed to do. A story at the cable company where she dared to question; policies of consolidation; double speak; net neutrality. The bottom line is people won't tell the truth which has created a disturbing climate for traditional journalists whose job was to find and tell the truth! Examples and quotes from Dan Rather, Helen Thomas' book 'Watchdogs of Democracy', Bill Moyers book 'Moyers on America', Phil Donahue and the right to protest. Basically the belief is the people don't need to know and the press corp is controlled --just in case another "Helen" comes along. You may not know of Danny Schechter, investigative reporter known as the 'The News Dissector' and his documentary 'Plunder'. "We are alive at a time when the truth is ridiculed." The complicated behind closed doors deals threatening Internet neutrality, intellectual property, and carrier content would all be controlled. What you can do and Clare's list of resources (see above in the blue box section on "Media Control and You...") |

"Beyond What You Can See" Clare brings out the multidimensional realms of graphic design with a purpose. What is a designer in the light? This one is not 'New Age' ...it's old age as in ancient wisdom, as in timeless knowledge, mathematics, and science, as in symbols that speak to who we are. Clare's approach to graphic design is to use it as a tool that can teach and help create change. Web design can often be flashy and impressive yet lack a meaningful message. "That's how design and what we look at every day reflects the way people think." Who the 'father' of graphic design is depends on who you ask. When Clare entered the world of graphic design it had quite an illustrative history, in the mid 80s tons of money were floating around and graphic design was having its hay day. When computers came along there was a natural resistance amongst artists to go electronic, the digital age did eventually lead to trivializing design as now 'anyone' can do it. So how do you choose, as Clare puts it, a "thinking designer" to create your message? "You want someone who is smart and experienced in several areas of design." We look forward to Clare's upcoming articles that will have numerous points, pitfalls, and tips on design and what makes the best designers. "It ultimately becomes what the message is, what I mean by spiritual is consciousness and evolution." And it's ok to break the rules, her latest ad says "What if business took itself spiritually?", she wondered if people really saw that what they are doing impacts us all. "Models of Perception" a badly animated story of "Flatland" done in 2002 is a fun place to get out of the box and see how you look at things. We can make something look pretty however sacred geometry, how measurement and form express what's hidden, is about how things are laid out like Stonehenge, crop circles, cathedrals, those are not just accidental, they are placed with a purpose. After years of seeing what happens with web designs we welcome Clare's years of experience and knowledge that will help us expand our 'Models of Perception', and we are happy to share Clare with you on BTO. For BTO listeners (no obligation at all) Clare welcomes you to call for a chat or send email for advice, help with your designer, or if you just have questions. "One of the things I came here to do is to help others learn and to serve." |
